Octopus

The Octopus was commissioned for a Carnival in 2013. The theme of the Carnival was The Beatles Yellow Submarine, so immediately I wanted to produce something of colour and impact. Originally the idea was a large scale model, which essentially it was in part once created. It required a person inside the framework of the head with the legs attached to a ring fitted with straps carried on the shoulders. The whole piece was heavy but carefully balanced. Made from metal, wire, wire mesh framework, paper mache creating the sculpt, bubble wrap, acetate and spray paint.

Influenced by 60s design and Archigram aswell as Japanese Manga. The end result created a bright impact and fun visual.
